Yesterday was my last day at work until the next school year. We are in the process of moving buildings, so I have spent the last few weeks packing up everything I have ever had for teaching. Let's just say that the papers I found were humorous! I used to have my students write letters at the end of the year to the upcoming students. I even encouraged them to embellish the truth and tell the new students how mean I was! It actually worked because the new students would be frightened to come to my class. Tee hee. I have found after this many years of teaching that children fear what they do not know. Hey you got to start somewhere. The crazier they think you are, the less they mess with you. I like the balance.
Needless to say I will be going to the "new" building to unpack and get my office set up. I now have an office! I will be working as a support person rather than a classroom teacher. I will be working with another teacher to supplement the curriculum and give support in any way needed such as doing small group pull-outs or enrichment activities. I am very excited to have this opportunity. And yes, I will now be serving the students from a cart! Hooray! Just kidding on the hooray part.
On Friday I found out that I have been sick for three weeks because I have Parvovirus B-19 (otherwise known as
Fifth's Disease). Wow was I surprised! The worst part was not the low-grade fever or the daily headaches, it was the joint pain and swelling! Actually the tests came back positive for the virus and for rheumatoid arthritis. The doctor said that the virus could cause a false-positive for that test so I have to go back in the 4 weeks to be retested. Wouldn't that be fabulous? Working from a cart going room to room with arthritis! Fantastic.
